Kathryn-Kay Johnson is an American artist. Her immersive, mixed-media abstract paintings are constructed from a tarp and multi-textile base, influenced by the advertising and street art embedded in the landscapes of Brooklyn and her hometown Miami.

She works from memory and from digitally-composed images, taking inspiration from natural ecosystems and from video game arena/environment design. Her painting style developed from her method of layering in design software, while working with feeling-led movement born from her love of electronic music, folk, and rebel music, and contemporary abstraction. 

The pieces exist between the ordinary and the fantastical, sometimes resembling something picked up off the street or taken from nature, other times embodying a mysterious machine artifact from a mythological intergalactic future.
